Activity-guided isolation of an antiandrogenic compound of Pygeum africanum.
Inactivation of the androgen receptor (AR) through androgen ablation and treatment with antiandrogens is a major goal in the therapy for prostate hyperplasia and prostate cancer. Bioactivity-directed fractionation of a selective dichloromethane extract from the stem bark of Pygeum africanum led to the isolation of the antiandrogenic compound atraric acid. Its activity was examined by an androge...
متن کاملGastroprotective and ulcer healing effects of piptadeniastrum Africanum on experimentally induced gastric ulcers in rats
BACKGROUND Gastric peptic ulcer is one of the common disorders of gastrointestinal tract, which occur due to an imbalance between the offensive and defensive factors. It is an illness that affects a considerable number of people worldwide. This study was conducted to evaluate the antiulcerogenic and antiulcer effects and recognize the basic mechanism of action of Piptadeniastrum africanum stem ...

In our course of screening for novel proteasome inhibitors, TMC-95A and its diastereomers, TMC-95Bto D, were isolated from the fermentation broth of Apiospora montagnei Sacc. TC 1093. TMC-95Ainhibited the chymotrypsin-like (ChT-L), trypsin-like (TL), and peptidylglutamyl-peptide hydrolyzing (PGPH) activities of 20S proteasome with IC50 values of 5.4nM, 200nM, and 60nM, respectively. TMC-95Binhi...
متن کاملActivities of compound G2 isolated from alfalfa roots against dermatophytes.
An antimycotic agent, compound G2, isolated from alfalfa roots exhibited considerable activity against the six most common dermatophytes. MICs in agar and broth dilutions ranged from 10 to 30 micrograms/ml and from 2 to 10 micrograms/ml, respectively. G2 was fungicidal at 5 to 22 micrograms/ml. Structure and toxicity relations are discussed.

A fermentation broth of an unidentified fungus (N983-46) was found to produce DNAgyrase inhibitors, CJ-12,371 (1) and CJ-12,372 (2). Following isolation by solvent extraction and silica gel and ODS(reverse phase) chromatographies, the structures were determined to be novel spiro-ketal compounds with S-connguration at position C-l. CJ-12,371 and CJ-12,372 inhibit both DNA supercoiling and relaxa...
